The Great Laxey Mine Railway
Laxey, Isle of Man
This former tramway was officially opened on the 25th September 2004 after the Laxey
and Lonan Heritage Trust began restoration of the surface section in 1999. Originally
constructed to serve the Isle of Man's Great Laxey Mine, a lead mine located in
Laxey, The Great Laxey Mine Railway now enables passengers to ride in a tiny carriage
along a quarter of a mile line. Running from the old mine entrance up the valley
to the former Washing Floors, now the Valley Gardens, and passing beneath the main
Laxey to Ramsey road and the Manx Electric Railway, the railway also goes through
the longest railway tunnel on the Island.
