Getting around by Car on the Isle of Man
With 688 miles of roads, from winding country lanes to busy 'A' roads, there is
a vast network of roads to explore by car on the Isle of Man. Driving is similar
to driving in the UK, as cars drive on the left hand side of the road as well. Car
enthusiasts will enjoy the de-restricted roads with no speed limits, although dangerous
driving is not tolerated.
If you are bringing your own car, a parking disc is a useful purchase as many built
up areas around the island have parking zones where you are required to indicate
the time of your arrival using the disc. Parking discs are available at the Sea
Terminal, the airport information desk and at tourist information points. If you
are hiring a car, they normally come with a parking disc. Hire cars are an inexpensive
way of exploring the island – see our
Car Hire
page for more details.
