Villa Marina and Gaiety Theatre Complex
Douglas, Isle of Man
The Gaiety Theatre was built in 1899 as an Opera House and Theatre. The Gaiety opened
on July 16th 1900 with a west end production of "The Telephone Girl" and has served
the island ever since.
In 2004 Douglas saw the opening of the new Villa Marina and Gaiety Theatre Complex,
consisting of the Villa Marina, the Gaiety Theatre, the Colonnade and extensive
gardens. The £15 million Villa Marina refurbishment now provides a worthy
sister venue to the Gaiety Theatre, both presenting an exciting year-round programme
of entertainment, theatre, film, art and music for the Isle of Man. Both venues
offer a warm welcome to both Islanders and visitors alike and their excellent facilities
are able to bring entertainment and the performing arts on through the 21st Century.
At the Villa Marina there are two new multi-purpose function rooms, The Colonnade
Suite situated on the upper ground floor with its spectacular views of Douglas Bay
and raised Terrace with capacity for 120 people, or 100 for dining. And downstairs
the Promenade Suite, the larger of the two function suites which can be divided
into several smaller rooms with a 180 seating capacity in theatre-style or can cater
for 150 people dining.
The Broadway Cinema in the Villa Marina presents a mix of family and the latest
blockbuster films using the latest cutting edge sound and projection equipment for
that big-screen experience. The cinema can seat 154 and can also be used as a lecture
theatre and Villa Marina also features an adventure play area for kids.
